Nano Nagle is widely credited with establishing girls education in Ireland through her work with the Presentation Sisters. A series of encounters led her to dedicate her life to helping the less fortunate. She witnessed people begging around a church door on the way home after a ball in Paris. when  Nano's father passed away she moved to Dublin to stay with their mother. And then her mother died tragically. Nano set out to support the vulnerable  At first, she thought to succeed in her goal she must join a convent in Paris. but Nano found that her religious life had sealed her off from the poor. she believed that she was put here to work to educate the weak and helpless It was decided that she would go back to Ireland and live with her brother Joseph and his wife on Cove Road (now Douglas Street). Since the Penal Laws require that Nano had to work in secret, Nano travelled by the light of the lantern she bore, and she coined the phrase "Miss. Nagle," or "the Lady of the Lantern," across Cork.</text>

<text>Woman tuning early radio, from 1923 radio magazine. Broadcasting had just begun in 1920 and vacuum tube radio receivers like this had just come on the market.. They ran off batteries, usually a 3-6V storage battery to power the vacuum tubes' filaments and a 30-90V "B" battery to provide the plate voltage. This woman kept forgetting to turn off the set, running the battery down, so she has wired a small indicator lamp (on top of radio) in the filament circuit to remind her. The early vacuum tubes could not produce much audio power, so early radios used horn loudspeakers, like the one on top of the set. The horn coupled sound from the speaker's diaphragm to the outside air better, and so could produce 10 times (10 dB) more sound power from a given audio signal than a cone speaker.

Caption: A fair fan's idea that saves a lot of worry when she shuts off for the evening. Miss Margie O'Neil found that she sometimes went to her downy and forgot to turn the current off her Magnavox, with the result that her battery was run down the next morning. So she placed a small 6V lamp in series with the battery line, which warns her to "turn off".

Alterations to image: Removed aliasing artifacts (crosshatched lines) introduced when the original halftone photo was scanned, using Gimp FFT filter.</text>

<text>Dusty Springfield was born Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien in West Hampstead on April 16, 1939, to Irish parents Gerard Anthony O'Brien and Catherine Anne "Kay" O'Brien. Dusty Springfield, a cultural icon of the Swinging Sixties, was "an instantly recognisable celebrity" when she was born in London  Springfield's platinum blonde bouffant hairstyle, ball gowns, and intense make-up, which included her much-copied "panda eye" mascara, helped her project a joyful image in public and on stage. She had also become a camp icon by the 1990s, thanks to her ultra-glam style, which, coupled with her emotive vocal performances, earned her a strong and lasting following among transgender people. She was portrayed as the 'Great White Lady' of pop and soul as well as the 'Queen of mods'  Springfield was cremated, with some of her ashes buried at Henley and the remainder spread at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland.</text>
