Subject
Birth Name Honoria Nagle, Nano had opened 7 schools for poor children across Cork. Nano Nagle is widely credited with establishing girls education in Ireland through her work with the Presentation Sisters. A series of encounters led her to dedicate her life to helping the less fortunate. She witnessed people begging around a church door on the way home after a ball in Paris. when Nano's father passed away she moved to Dublin to stay with their mother. And then her mother died tragically. Nano set out to support the vulnerable At first, she thought to succeed in her goal she must join a convent in Paris. but Nano found that her religious life had sealed her off from the poor. she believed that she was put here to work to educate the weak and helpless It was decided that she would go back to Ireland and live with her brother Joseph and his wife on Cove Road (now Douglas Street). Since the Penal Laws require that Nano had to work in secret, Nano travelled by the light of the lantern she bore, and she coined the phrase "Miss. Nagle," or "the Lady of the Lantern," across Cork.
